Do you ever see something you like and get completely inspired?  At the start of this year I wanted to spruce up my throw pillows and was browsing through Society6 when I saw the cutest palm leaf pillows.  I have seen palm leaf print everywhere but thought it was completely out of my comfort zone and away from my normal home decor style.

20 minutes into my browsing I had loaded my cart with pillow covers, art prints, and a new plan to redecorate my bedroom.  I fell deep into the black hole…

Here are 4 ways to refresh your room to kickstart the new year:

    1. Change out your throw pillows – I have always been a huge fan of mix and match throw pillows while keeping a consistent theme, but this time I wanted to use the same print to have a more cohesive look. These pillows instantly caught my eye and inspired me to create a more desert/rustic theme for my room.
    2. Switch up your artwork – I don’t want to admit this but I have had empty frames hanging in my room for the past year and it was time for me to fill them with something, but what?  I have always loved having artwork rather than personal pictures on my walls so I began my hunt for art that could play off the new throw pillows.  I added this piece and this print from Society6 and included them in my gallery wall.  I also went to Urban Outfitters to find this print, which I am obsessed with, and this print to add to my collection.  I used these artworks in different frames to give an eclectic look.
    3. Rearrange wall decor – If you are not in the market to purchase new decor pieces for your bedroom one of the easiest ways to re-invent your space is to just rearrange!  I used pieces from my gallery wall and added them above my desk, you just repurpose pieces you have and the space feels entirely new without costing your dime.
    4. Purge and Organize – this is one of the most important steps to refreshing any space in your home.  In the beginning of a new year it is always a good idea to clear out your drawers, organize your space, and decide what you need to keep or donate.

I am currently sitting here with a candle burning, drinking my second cup of coffee and trying to think of why I started this blog…

I created Call Me Hales as a creative outlet to have while studying Public Relations but if I am going to be honest with myself I feel more creative decorating my home, cooking dinner for my family, or browsing Pinterest.  I can draw inspiration from a pillow and create an entirely new bedroom; which is what I am currently doing at my apartment, I know I am in insane. However, as I enter my career at a Public Relations agency I want to focus on digital marketing and working with bloggers.  So what does 2017 look like for me?

This year I will graduate college, try to somehow figure out the next step in my life.  Amongst the chaos of job hunting I want to find confidence in myself.  Confidence in my personal struggles, confidence in my physical health, confidence in the way I present my self to others.  That is the resolution I am setting for myself.  I am not going to put a number or a date on my goals but just have a general goal to be more confident.

I want to read more books, try new things, meet new people and become adventurous in the kitchen.  I want to explore more cities, drink way more water, and pursue the Lord harder than I ever have before.  This past year may have been disappointing but lets make 2017 one for the books.

Current Skincare Routine

IMG_1528IMG_1532IMG_1534IMG_1529IMG_1533IMG_1531

Recently I have been paying more attention to my skincare and have found some products that have helped my skin tremendously. I have really sensitive skin but it’s extremely dry, so it can have a bad reaction and dry patches over night.  I have found these products to really maintain clear skin and not cause me to break out in a rash.

  1. Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm – I use this to remove my makeup and y’all it is so easy.  You take a tsp. size amount and massage it into your face and all of your makeup just comes right off!
  2. Tula Face Cleanser – I first heard about this from Katey at Chronicles of Frivolity, it is a probiotic cleanser so it balances out your skin and it’s also paraben free. Also you can use the code FB20 for 20% off the total or the code TULA15 for 15% off, I am not sure if they have an expiration date but those are two codes I found recently snd wanted to share!
  3. Toner – I switch between this toner and the Clinique one, I just ran out of my Clinique toner the other week.  This toner is from the drugstore and has helped prevent breakouts on my face.
  4. Silver Powder – I have been loving Mario Badescu products ever since I tried their drying cream for spot treatment.  I use this powder about twice a week just around my nose and in between my eye brows, it clears out clogged pores and draws out any impurities!
  5. It’s Potent! Eye Cream – it is never too early to start using eye cream, and this one from Benefit helps reduce dark circles under your eyes (which is always a good thing). Plus I have had this jar for at least 2 months and it doesn’t look like I have ever used it so this will last you a very long time since the price is a little steeper.
  6. Ultra Repair Cream – I LOVE First Aid Beauty, they are one of my favorite less expensive higher end skin care lines.  They offer a lot of variety in their products based on your skin type.  I typically stick with their hydration line since I have such dry skin. I have used their moisturizer and sleeping cream before and I just recently picked this up after my face went through a patchy period.  You can also use this on your body as well since it has a more body butter texture to it. I am eyeing the 5-in-1 Bounce Mask for my next FAB purchase!
  7. Flower & Tonic Mask – this has become one of my favorite mid day masks lately.  It smells SO refreshing and leaves my skin just feeling super clean and tight.

Favorite Summer Lips!

Since it’s summer I need something quick & easy that will add some color to my lips. I don’t wear a lot of eye shadow and have eyelash extensions so I really have to play up my lips.  The Coloupop lippie stix are some of my absolute favorite for everyday, and these 6 shades are the ones I gravitate to the most.

  1. Lumiere – This is a matte shade with a dusty mauve pigment.
  2. Tiger – This is one of there new sheer shades with a plum pigment.  Don’t let that scare you, the sheerness makes it look more like a lip stain.
  3. Juice Bar – This is one of there new sheer shades that has become my go to lately.  It is described as a cool tone berry pink, it looks like your lips but better.
  4. BYOB – This is another one of there new sheer shades, and it is more of a fun hot barbie pink to have for those girl’s nights out.
  5. Frida – This is a satin shade with a nude pink pigment. The best way to describe the satin finish, you can rub your lips together and they will glide smoothly.
  6. Fancy – This last lippie stix is a satin shade which is more of an orangey pink, it is perfect against tan summer skin.

The best part about Colourpop’s lippie stix, they cost $5 and will last you for months. It is an amazing price for an amazing product that is comparable to many higher end items.  If you have used Colourpop lippie stix before, what is your favorite shade?

How cute are the Bando Planners?? I joined their VIP list so I could have early access because I have been wanting to purchase one of their planners for over a year now.

The planner starts in August, so is has been sitting on my desk for the past month taunting me.  I am happy to announce that I have since started to use it and I couldn’t love it more!

The planner is broken up by month and includes fun artwork in the beginning tab. Each tab has a full month view, and then the weekly view following.  Bando includes notes pages for each month, I use these to write out my blog post ideas and goals for that month.

If y’all want to check them out I linked my exact planner here: http://www.bando.com/collections/agendas/products/ban-do-17-month-large-agenda-lady-of-leisure

This past weekend I took a trip down to Houston to visit one of my girlfriends.  I have lived in Texas for almost 9 years and have never been to Houston, how is that? We walked the town, ate good food, and sweat through our clothes on multiple occasions but I couldn’t ask for a better getaway.

We started the weekend off at a local brewery. We played jenga, drank beer and hung out until way too early in the morning! You always have to brunch when hanging out with girlfriends, so we headed to downtown and ate more than we could handle.

First we went to the Biscuit Paint Wall, which at first I thought it was going to be wads of painted biscuit dough stuck to a wall but it ended up being such a cool little spot! There was even the cutest store on the inside which had TO DIE FOR wallpaper. Next stop was the Water Wall right next to the Houston Galleria mall.  It was so much bigger than we thought and you could feel the mist spray on you when you stood in the middle.

We finished the night at the original Lupe’s, us texans sure do know how to make Mexican food and it is a staple in our everyday lives.  We finished the weekend off with ping pong and barbecue before I headed back home!

Playing Catch Up: Life Lately

Hey y’all! It’s been a hot minute since I posted but I am back and ready to set a schedule to post regularly.  This weekend one of my friends from Dallas came to visit Fayetteville and we took some fun pictures.  One thing I have learned is that I’m awkward in front of any type of camera and I can make a mean stank face.

Here’s a couple pictures from our little photoshoot!

Bits & Pieces: My Room

Hey MTV, welcome to my crib!

It’s no secret that I love decorating.  I am border-line obsessed with home decor and anything related to it, so I’m not lying when I say my room is a little piece of me.  When it comes to a house tour, there is no better way to start than with your own room, so here it is!

IMG_0050  IMG_0051

Here is the view standing in the hallway.  Come on in!

IMG_0052  IMG_0053

IMG_0054  IMG_0067

Decor pillows or my love language? They are basically interchangeable.  I have six in total and if I could fill my entire bed, then you know I would.  Personally, I think they add the finishing touch and can really make or break the room.

Mixing colors, prints, and textures is key.  I never go looking for pillows that match, because I think it makes the bed look complete if the pillows are somewhat random.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense, but trust me on this one folks.

If you look to the left of my bed I have 1 side table.

IMG_0055  IMG_0056

-In my top drawer, you will find all of my lotions and chapsticks (Low key, I have chapstick stashed EVERYWHERE)

-In my second drawer, you will find all of my books (I’m talking everything from The Hunger Games to Twilight) and my devotional’s

-My bottom drawer holds all of my nail care and extra things that don’t fit anywhere else

*just because I’m nosey and always want to know what’s where in people’s rooms

If you look to the right of my bed I have my dresser

(I could die.  It is my heaven in a piece of furniture)

IMG_0058

On top of the dresser, I have two old windows I found in the garage of our new house.

IMG_0059

This is where I store all of my jeans, t-shirts, and athletic shorts.

IMG_0061  IMG_0060

On either side of the dresser, I have the tray and bust I posted about in my friday favorites with my favorite Sandalwood candle.  I also have this vintage fan, planter box filled with an old candle, and a flower vase.

IMG_0057

Ever since I was little I have always wanted a chair in a corner of my room, seriously people this is what I dreamed about…

My floor length mirror is a little awkward at the moment and doesn’t match, because I’m taking it with me back with me to college.

The basket on top of the chair is just another placement, but it holds my bible and devotional journal, for now.

IMG_0062 IMG_0063

In our new house, my room and the guest room share a Jack & Jill bathroom, but we each have our own vanity area.

Here is a little sneak peek into my vanity and closet area, but we will save that tour for another time.

I hope that y’all enjoyed the little sneak peek into my favorite room of the house and can embrace my love of color..joke…

(since my room is basically all cream, get it?)

{celeb}spiration

Everyone today looks up to celebrities, whether it be fashion advice or lifestyle choices.  Taking a picture of a celebrity and recreating something that they picked out of their closets is so fun, so I figured why not play dress up?

I was out shopping with my friend B and we went to Plato’s Closet to drop off some clothes, while we were waiting I saw these…

IMG_0030  IMG_0031

I mean, hello who do these remind you of??

Let me give you a hint, he’s a member of a popular boy band.  Do you know now?

So yes, today I got to dress up like Harry Styles and I felt like an 18 year old boy but you know what, I freaking loved it.  This was so me, and more of an edgy look that I don’t get to bring out a lot.  Plus, it was centered around booties so I knew I was going to love this look.

Stripe shirt + Ripped Jeans + Boyish booties= Match made in heaven.

IMG_0022  IMG_0023

I am not sure what else describes Harry Styles besides a messy bun and this outfit.  It seems to be his “go to look” and I can see how 13-year-old girls cry over him. Jk… but maybe a little.

#ootd

Today was 1//2 days off of work I have each week and I started the day of in the cutest coffee shop in my town.  I’ve really been trying to dress in ‘actual’ clothes rather than grabbing a t-shirt and shorts, so I can give a “I didn’t just roll out of bed” vibe.

Mixing prints is a huge past time for me and I think it can make any outfit interesting, where it may otherwise lack oomph (is that even a word?).

IMG_0217_2IMG_0218_2

I started with a duo-printed dolphin short and drew inspiration from there.  I didn’t want to pair them with a plain white top so I pulled out my gray and white striped long sleeve.  It is a simple top but gives enough texture and contrast that I think it works great with the print on the shorts.  This necklace might be the most treasured item in my jewelry collection, it really goes with everything and layers nicely with other pieces.  Today I chose to wear it alone and thought the pink quartz brought out the pink tones in the shorts.

IMG_0220_2
IMG_0219_2

For the shoes; if you know anything about me it is that I LOVE me some booties and I think they finish off any outfit for any season.  But I also think a sandal pairs nicely with this kind of look as well.
